ABOUT RENÉ PLOURDE

René Plourde, born in 1667 in Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, Poitou, France, was one of the first settlers of present day Quebec, Canada. He left Poitiers for New France in 1692. The Plourde family had been long established in the Traversais area, near Poitiers. Baptisms and marriages are recorded in Poitiers, Dissay, Saint-Cyr, and Traversais.

In 2002, on a photography shoot in France, I decided to visit these towns. I discovered a monument to René in Saint-Cyr and saw many buildings and churches which my ancestors would have seen and visited. In fact, several years ago, Traversais hosted a Plourde family reunion. The village ploudly displays a small plaque commemorating that event.

Please visit my Plourde exhibit to see photos of the ancestral land.

I would love to hear from any other descendants of René. Please contact me.
